Abstract
958,973. Reciprocating pumps. WEATHERHEAD CO. Oct. 19, 1960 [Oct. 20, 1959], No. 35882/60. Heading F1A. [Also in Division G3] In a pump of the type described in Specification 952,203 a member 113 forms a cylinder chamber 94 and is. slidable on the fixed piston 132 in accordance with the pressure controlled by the valve 90; the member 113 engages the block 110 to control its position and hence the pump output. Modification are described in which the movement of the cylinder block is damped e.g. as shown in Fig. 7 where the cylinder block forms a piston slidable in a cylinder 306 provided with outlets 307, 308 which restrict the flow of liquid to and from the liquid filled casing 300. A spring opened valve 318 is provided to by-pass the outlet to inlet on starting; restricted passages allow pressure to build up so that the valve is closed to allow normal operating.
