Abstract

958,803. Vacuum cleaners. SUNBEAM CORPORATION. March 13, 1961 [July 11, 1960], No. 9139/61. Heading A4F. [Also in Divisions B5 and F1] An air operated cleaning attachment for a vacuum cleaner, comprising a housing unit defining a nozzle chamber 16 in which is rotatably mounted a brush 32, and a turbine chamber 95 housing a turbine wheel 92 which is secured to one end of a shaft 87 rotatably supported in the housing unit, the other end of the shaft 87 having secured thereto a toothed pulley 88 which is drivingly connected by means of a belt 90 to a toothed pulley 34 on the brush 32; a tube 75, for attachment to the vacuum cleaner is connected to the housing unit by means of a swivel portion 75a, the tube 75 being adjustable to vary the position of an opening 77 therein relative to an opening 72 in a chamber 70 leading from the turbine chamber 95 of the housing unit, so that the suction in the latter may be reduced. The housing unit is supported on wheels 21, 22, the wheels 22 being alternatively mounted in notches 55 or 56 for adjusting the height of the nozzle chamber 16 and the brush is adjustable in height by being mounted in unsymmetrical bearing blocks 40 retained by spring members in recesses in the housing unit. The nozzle chamber 16 is interconnected to the turbine chamber 95 by an opening 100 tangentially disposed to the turbine wheel 92.
