Abstract
955,097. Toothed gearing. R. BRAREN. May 16, 1960, No. 17243/60. Heading F2Q. In eccentric epicyclic gearing an internallytoothed annulus 37 in a fixed housing 4-5 is simultaneously engaged by two side-by-side gear rings 35, 36 on discs 20, 21 freely mounted eccentrically with 180 degree phase difference on a drive shaft 1, the driven shaft 6 being coupled to the gyrating discs 20, 21 by rollers 27 engaging enlarged bores 24, 25 therein. The outer surfaces 42, 43 of the discs 20, 21 are of pitch circle diameter and roll on corresponding inner surfaces on the housing 4-5 to absorb centrifugal forces. The two gear rings 35, 36 interengage on their side faces and are laterally supported by annular surfaces 40, 41 on the gear housing. As shown the disc 20 is mounted by rollers 16 on a member 7 which has a parallelsided opening 9 engaging flats on the shaft 1 and which is radially biased to an eccentric position by a spring 46. The disc 21 is similarly mounted but is spring biased in the opposite direction. The gear teeth may be involute or cycloidal. In modifications the internal gear teeth are replaced by pins whose cylindrical surfaces engage rounded cycloidal teeth on the gyrating gear rings, or engage depressions of semi-circular section in the discs. In the latter case the parts of the discs between the depressions form the rolling surfaces.
