Abstract

943,117. Stoppers. METAL CONTAINERS Ltd. Jan. 9, 1962 [Jan. 10, 1961], No. 1000/61. Heading B8T. A container comprises an outer shell 11 of a rigid material, e.g. sheet steel, an inner liner 12 of a flexible material, e.g. polyethylene, and a neck portion 13, 15 which is curled over at 16 to receive a snap-on-cap 17 of similar material to that of the liner. A metal seal cap 18 is placed over the cap 17 and the edge 19 of its skirt is crimped under the rim of the cap 17. The seal cap may have tear lines and tabs to facilitate removal. In a modification the snap-on-cap has a recessed top into which a metal support is placed to support the curled-over portion of the neck during the crimping of the seal cap, Fig. 2 (not shown).
