Abstract
942,584. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. G. HAIM. April 4, 1962 [April 6, 1961], No. 12454/61. Heading B5K. In a device for welding thermoplastic materials such as polythene, P.V.C., polymethyl methacrylate or polypropylene, a stream of heated gas (such as air or nitrogen) coming from a welding torch is divided so that one jet is emitted from a nozzle a, to preheat the material to be welded, while the other jet passes into a tube a 2 to preheat the filler rod being fed through a tube b which opens into the tube a 2 . A shoe c is provided on the end of tube b to apply pressure to the softened filler rod. It is stated that welding speeds up to 60 inches/ minutes are possible.
