Abstract
Micaceous insulating materials are formed by heating mixtures of mica, glass frits and quartz with sericite, and/or chlorite mica. The glass frit is prepared by the method of Specification 532,824 and is formed from cryolite, barium carbonate, potassium carbonate, soda ash, and boric acid ground to a powder and heated to 500 DEG C. The glass frit and other ingredients are ground and mixed together, pressed into blocks, sheets or billets and passed through a furnace at 450-650 DEG C. The material obtained may be shaped whilst hot or cooled and is then cut or ground. Slates may be used as the source of quartz, sericute and/or chlorite mica.
