Abstract

947,062. Two-part couplings; mechanical switches, without quick-action. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 1, 1960 [June 4, 1959], No. 19406/60. Headings H2B and H2E. In conjunction with a counter-plug 33, electrical apparatus comprises a housing 1, a rotatable voltage commutator 5 located within an aperture 39 in the housing, a fixed voltage commutator located internally of and for co-operation with the commutator 5 which has a plurality of contacts and plug pins 11 corresponding to and connected to certain of the contacts, the plug 33 being shaped to permit its insertion into the aperture 39, of co-operating with the pins 11, of being rotatable relative to the housing when partially inserted, and not rotatable when fully inserted through the co-operation of a non-circular part 37 of the plug with the walls of the aperture. The commutator 5 comprises a rotatable disc 7 in a frame 9, the fixed commutator being locked in the frame by a strap 23. On partial insertion the pins 11 engage bores 43, the plug 33 and thereby the pins 11 are rotated to the selected voltage and then locked in that position when the plug is fully inserted.
