Abstract

[ Also in Division F2] A pressure regulating valve comprises a housing portion 11 having an inlet port 16, an outlet port 17 and a poppet valve 26a controlling the flow from the inlet to a chamber 18. A diaphragm assembly 28, comprises two diaphragms 36, 37 forming a chamber between them connected to atmosphere, the diaphragm 36 being connected to a vent valve member 27 which co-operates with the end of the poppet valve stem 26 to control exhaust from the chamber 28. A chamber 45 above the diaphragm 37 is connected to the inlet port 16 by a passage containing an orifice 72 and communicates with a chamber 47 through a jet 48 the opening of which is controlled by an S-shaped pilot valve member 80. The chamber 47 is connected to the outlet port 17 by a passage 63 and the outlet pressure acts on a bellows 49 to adjust the pilot valve 80 which controls the pressure in the chamber 45. This pressure acts on the diaphragm assembly in opposition to the pressure in chamber 18 to open or close the valve 26a or vent valve 27 to maintain a constant outlet pressure. The inside of bellows 49 may be subject to a loading pressure and the initial position of the bellows may be adjusted manually. A light loading spring 83 acts on the diaphragm assembly to provide a minimum pressure drop, of say 5 p.s.i. across the jet 48.
