Abstract
933,334. Cigarette-making machines. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. Nov. 2, 1959, No. 37170/59. Class 130. Cigarettes on a belt 16, Fig. 2, are turned end for end by a vertical rotating disc 26 on which they are held over at least part of their travel by suction. Mouthpiece cigarettes delivered from the cut-off of a cigarette machine are arranged in two rows with their mouthpieces facing one another on belts 16, 50, and the cigarettes on belt 16 are turned by disc 26 so that when delivered on to a belt 46 they face in the same direction as those on belt 50, all of the cigarettes being delivered on to a common collecting plate 48. The disc 26 is provided with suction orifices 32 and its surface may be rough to prevent slipping of the cigarettes or the latter may be held in recesses 34. In a modification, Fig. 6, the suction orifices 76 cooperate with a stationery suction slot 74 so that after a short travel the orifices 76 pass beyond the slot 74 and the cigarettes are held against the disc by guides 80 for the remainder of their travel.
