Abstract
931,710. Joint-making packing. CORRUGATED PACKING & SHEET METAL CO. Ltd., and T. P. NICHOLSON. May 5, 1960 [May 22, 1959], No. 17435/59. Class 122 (3). A corrugated gasket comprises a sheet 10, Fig. 2, of metal having a high degree of resistance to compression and a high degree of resilience, as compared with mild steel, and a sheet or facing element 11 secured thereto by soldering, brazing or the use of an adhesive. The sheet 10 may be of stainless steel and provided on one or both sides with the softer sheet which may be of nickel alloys, aluminium or copper; the facing sheets on opposite sides of the sheet 10 may be of different materials and of laminated form. Corrugations 13 are provided around openings in the gasket, and these openings may be eyeleted both above and below with a soft aluminium facing 16, Fig. 7, which is brazed, soldered or stuck to the gasket in the flat and subsequently embossed to give the corrugated form, the corrugated surface on one side of the gasket being softer than that on the other, if desired. Such an eyeleted formation may be provided on a gasket formed of the composite sheets described above or only of the hard metal sheet 10. The exposed faces, e.g. the completed gasket, may be lacquered, electroplated, dyed or otherwise treated.
