Abstract
938,736. Rail insulating pads. S. TIPPETT. April 4, 1962 [Jan. 5, 1961], No. 532/61. Class 104 (2). [Also in Group XXXII] A resilient electrically-insulating pad for insertion between a rail and a sleeper 7 or base-plate 8 has metal reinforcements embedded in projections 2, also of electrically-insulating material, to enable the projections to grip the sleeper or base-plate. One or more projections (not shown), may be provided on the under face of the pad to engage in a corresponding recess in the sleeper or base-plate. The pad may also have integral studs on its lower and upper faces. In an alternative embodiment the projections extend initially in the same plane as the body of the pad and are bent by hand to grip the sleeper or base-plate. In all forms of the pad the reinforcements may be exposed on one face of the projections. The pad may be moulded with a regular array of cylindrical or frusto-conical studs on its upper and lower faces.
