A crate for use in transporting livestock, particularly young poultry, comprises a sheet metal base 1 and a wire superstructure 2, 3. The base has projections 6 pressed upwards therefrom to afford a foothold for the livestock within the crate, the projections being interrupted at 7 to provide adequate drainage for water used to wash the crate.
