Abstract

The invention comprises thiocolchicine derivatives of the general formula:- <FORM:0934193/IV(a)/1> in which R represents the acyl residue of a carboxylic acid containing at least 9 and not more than 20 carbon atoms, and their preparation by reacting deacetyl thiocolchicine with a reactive derivative of the carboxylic acid, particularly the acid chloride. Examples detail the preparation of compounds of the above formula in which R is trimethylgalloyl, pelargonyl, caprinoyl, undecanoyl, and lauroyl. The invention also comprises anti-mitotic compositions containing one of the above thiocolchines and an inert carrier. Specification 763,217 is referred to.
