Abstract

923,283. Moulding objects with synthetic resin surfaces. K. CAMENZIND. June 29, 1960 [Aug. 22, 1959(2)], No. 22704/60. Class 87(2). An object having a synthetic resin surface is made by first coating a flexible sheet or foil mould with at least one layer of synthetic resin and then filling the mould with artificial stone or other mouldable and settable material constituting the core of the object. A mould for making a wash basin is illustrated as a first embodiment in Fig. 1 and comprises a rigid mould 1 lined with a polyvinyl chloride sheet 2 of 1-3 mm thickness. The discharge fitting 3 is pressed against the sheet 2 by means of the threaded spindle 4 projecting through the rigid mould 1 and the nuts 5. The sheet 2 is coated, by spraying or other means, with a polyester or epoxy resin and after this has hardened, other layers may be added. Before the last layer hardens, it is coated with a granular material, e.g. sand, and then, when it has hardened, the mould is filled with an artificial stone composition. In a second embodiment, the mould is used to produce a phenolformaldehyde resin object, e.g. an acid basin, which has a surface of a high grade resin such as a polyester or epoxy resin.
