Abstract

920,923. Packaging machines. HERMORION Ltd. Oct. 23, 1961 [Oct. 28, 1960], No. 37890/61. Class 94(1). [Also in Group XXVIII]. A web 2 of relatively thick paper coated on one side with heat-sealable plastic and on the other side with wax or plastic material, is folded by rollers 6, 7 along its longitudinal centre line and is then passed around rollers 8, 12 and through a forming ring 15, the longitudinal edges then being heat-sealed together by a sealing element 16 and roller 17 to form a tube 13. The folded web 2<SP>1</SP> encircles a filling pipe 14 supported by an arm 19 projecting between the web edges, the pipe 14 being connected to a supply pipe 20. The pipe 14 is provided with a counter-pressure roller (not shown) located opposite the sealing roller 17. Filled and sealed packages of tetrahedron shape are formed from the tube 13 by means of vertically reciprocating yokes 21, 22 each provided with clamping jaws (not shown) arranged in mutually perpendicular plans for heat sealing the tube and severing the sealed and filled package from the tube. The arrangement is such that while one yoke 21 moves upwardly, the other yoke 22 moves downwardly with its jaws in engagement with the tube 13 to move it downwardly and draw a length of web from the supply roll 1. The clamping jaws of the yoke 21 then engage the tube 13 to heat seal the tube and then moves downwardly to sever the then formed package from the sealed end of the tube.
