Abstract
920,572. Two-part connectors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 31, 1959 [Aug. 1, 1958; April 21, 1959 (2)], Nos. 24869/58, 13562/59 and 13563/59. Class 38 (1). A two-part connector has at least one resilient socket which can be deformed by the sides of apertures in a clamping member to grip an inserted pin. Plug contacts 18, as shown in Fig. 4, having a pin 21 with a uniform diameter tip portion 27 and a reverse tapered portion 28 and socket contacts 19 with slits 29 in a sleeve 22 are carried in plug-and-socket portions 10, 11, Fig. 5. The socket contacts 19 pass through slots 25, Fig. 2, in a clamping-plate 23 pivotally mounted by a screw 24 on the socket 11 and rotation of the clamping plate 23 causes movement of the contact sleeve 22 from a wide portion of the slot 25 to a narrower portion and thus deforms the sleeve. The two parts are correctly engaged by means of locating tabs and a bayonet locking sleeve 32 also serves to rotate clamping plate 23. An alternative form of clamping member, which moves in the axial direction of the contacts, is shown in Fig. 7. In other embodiments the clamping plate is mounted for limited rectilinear movement, e.g. as in Fig. 12, where an insulating board 90 has conducting tracks connected to sockets 93 and a clamping or locking bar 96 is mounted to slide parallel to the edge of the board.
