Abstract

929,780. Automatic voltage and current control systems. MINISTER OF AVIATION. Sept. 1, 1960 [Sept. 3, 1959], No. 30059/59. Class 38 (4). In the electric power supply circuit shown, stabilized voltages are taken from terminals A3, A5. A6 and A4 across Zener diodes D2, D3 and D4 when an unregulated supply voltage is connected across terminals A1 and A2, and a transistor Q is provided having its emitter connected over a resistor R1 to terminal A1, its collector connected to terminal A3, and its base connected over a resistor R2 to terminal A2, a Zener diode D1 being connected between terminal A1 and the transistor base. If the supply voltage increases, the voltage across D1 will remain substantially constant but the increase in current through resistor R1 will decrease the bias between emitter and base and the supply current will then tend to decrease. Thus the emitter and collector currents tend to remain constant and the current through diodes D2, D3 and D4 will also remain constant giving better stabilisation of the output voltage. A Zener diode D5 connected between the base and collector electrodes protects the transistor during transient conditions. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 877,496.
