Abstract

928,382. Vehicle interior lighting. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Dec. 14, 1961 [Dec. 20, 1960], No. 44881/61. Class 75 (4). A lamp is so arranged at or near a glove-box opening in the dashboard or instrument panel of a motor vehicle, or in the glove box lid itself, that when the glove box lid is open it illuminates both the interior of the glove box and the space in front of the passenger seat sufficiently for map or other reading. In the form shown, the lamp 6 is mounted on the upper edge of the lid 2 behind a small window 12 having a lens 7 and is covered by a screen 14 mirrored on the inside to direct the light into the glove box 1 and shield the windscreen from direct light. The catch 17 of the glove box is constructed to switch the light on when the box is opened. In a modification, the lamp is mounted below the glove box which is illuminated through an aperture in the bottom, a mirror system being provided in front of the lamp to direct light toward the passenger seat. In a further modification, the light is mounted near the open end of the glove box close to the upper surface.
