Abstract
926,864. Agitating suspensions. N. R. ANDERSON. Nov. 9, 1961 [Nov. 28, 1960], No. 40104/61. Class 86. A mixer for cement grouts and other suspensions forming heavy sediments comprises a stirrer 19 having two impeller blades 34, 34a made of reinforced flexible, preferably resilient fabric which flex in operation and when lowered into the material skate over the surface of a sediment instead of digging in and stalling. The stirrer is carried on a tubular spindle 9 which may be raised by a handle 22 which fulcrums on rollers 23 and is pivoted at 21 to a sleeve 20 vertically slidable on the spindle 9 and bearing, when the handle is lifted, on the underside of a cap 10 fixed to the spindle. The latter is rotated by a motor 13 (which may be a portable electric or pneumatic drill or a petrol engine) vertically slidable on the uprights 14, 14a. A pillar 25 fixed to the bottom 3 of the container 2 enters and acts as a guide for the spindle 9; it has a square cross-section so that its edges scrape deposits from the bore of the spindle whence they are discharged through holes therein as at 30. The spindle is supported in its lower position on the top of the pillar 25, see Fig. 3 (not shown). The drum 1 has internal deflectors 7 and a rim 8.
