Abstract
913,018. Two-part couplings. UNITEDCARR FASTENER CORPORATION. June 24, 1960 [June 26, 1959], No. 22273/60. Class 38 (1). An electrical pin-engaging contact 15 for assembling in a plastic body 28 or a multiway socket body (not shown) is formed from a resilient strip of metal and comprises : a main portion with tail 16 having a conductor connection hole 19, and two recesses 20, 21, a pair of legs 17, 18 having angularly-disposed portions 22, 23 and 24, 25 and protuberances 26, 27 for frictionally gripping a pin 42, Fig. 12, which splays the legs outwards on insertion through a semi-circular opening 43 in body 28. The contact is located and held in the rectangular cavity 29 of the body by the ledges 36, 37 with lips 38, 39 and spacers 34, 35 attached to walls 33 and by projections 31, 32 on wall 30 which seat in the recesses 20, 21 of the tail. The contact is inserted into the cavity from the opposite end of the socket to the pin. In a modified form, Fig. 10, the contact is inserted into the cavity from the same end as the pin; structurally the cavity 29 is similar except that the projections 31, 32 are at the bottom of the cavity and a plastic strip portion 41 extends between the side walls, the projections 31, 32 and the portion 41 defining a slot 40 for the insertion of the tail which is diminished in width and instead of recesses has shoulders 20, 21 which rest on the projections 31, 32.
