Abstract
910,305. Pistons. CROSS MANUFACTURING CO. (1938) Ltd. June 13, 1960 [June 16, 1959], No: 20615/59. Class 122 (1). A piston-and-ring assembly in an internalcombustion engine in which the piston skirt projects out of the cylinder at bottom deadcentre comprises a split bearing ring located near the open end of the skirt and comprising a rectangular section body portion 6 having at each end an inturned radial flange 8 engaging a groove 9 in the piston, the ring being of such axial length that when the piston is at bottom dead-centre part of the ring remains in the cylinder bore as shown in Fig. 1. The piston also has an upper bearing ring 4 and packing rings 5. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the grooves 9 are connected by an annular groove having a radial depth less than the radial thickness of the body portion 6.
