919,812. Diazotype material. CHEMISCHE FABRIEK L. VAN DER GRINTEN N.V. Feb. 28, 1961 [March 8, 1960], No. 7359/61. Addition to 919,037. Class 98 (2). A one-component diazotype paper has a coating of a mixture of diazonium salts, 60 to 95 mol. % of this mixture is a salt or a mixture of salts of formula wherein X is an anion, R 1 and R 2 are methyl or ethyl groups or if R 1 is methyl R 2 may be cyclohexyl, and Ar is a phenyl radical which may have up to two substituents, and 40 to 5 mol. % of this mixture is a biphenyl diazonium salt which contains in the nucleus with the diazonium group in the 4 position, two alkoxy groups in positions 2 and 5 with at most 3 carbon atoms each, or a 1-phenylmercapto 2,5-dialkoxybenzene 4-diazonium salt in which the phenylmercapto group is substituted and the alkoxy groups contain at most 3 carbon atoms each. In the diazonium salts which form the major component, the phenoxy group may contain halogen atoms, alkoxy, methyl and mono- and di-alkyl amino groups as substituents. In the diazonium salts which form the minor component, the phenyl group which does not contain the diazonium group may have halogen atoms, alkoxy, phenoxy, alkyl and phenyl groups as substituents. Finely divided particles of silica, synthetic resin, or rice starch may be used as fillers for the diazotype paper. The developer is a weakly acid, buffered solution of phloroglycinol which may contain acetoacetanilide or resorcinol as additional couplers, an alkyl or aryl sodium sulphonate and an organic acid.
