Abstract

919,749. Vehicle lamps. CIBIE, P. April 10, 1961 [April 20, 1960], No. 12879/61. Addition to 841,367. Classes 75 (2) and 75 (4). The headlamp of the parent Specification is modified by constructing the inner reflector in two parts divided by a horizontal line so that each part can be separately orientated with regard to the light source. The headlamp uses a bulb with a main and a dipped filament, the latter being associated with a screen for cutting off radiation from the lower half of the reflector. In the form shown, the headlamp has an outer reflector 1 having a rectangular mouth closed by a glass 2, and inner reflectors 12, 13 on opposite sides of the axis of the lamp 4. The reflector 1 consists of a paraboloid of revolution arranged between two flat parallel faces 8, 9 on which the reflectors 12, 13 are supported. The position of the upper reflector 12 is adjusted in relation to the dipped filament 6 and it may also be turned through a small angle about a vertical axis to increase the illumination at e.g. the near side of the road. To reduce the intensity of short-range illumination of the road by the main filament, the reflector 13 may be moved nearer to the bottom of the reflector 1 or its optical axis may be tilted upwards relative to the optical axis of the main reflector.
