Abstract
903,485. Slub catchers for yarn winding. ABBOTT MACHINE CO. Inc. Sept. 22, 1960, No. 32593/60. Class 120 (2). A slub catcher of the type in which the presence of a slub causes the yarn to be deflected laterally from a normal path Y, Fig. 3, to a path S where the yarn is caught, comprises two inclined blocks 10 and 11 between which the yarn passes, the blocks 10 and 11 being so formed in the region of the path Y that they have non- opposed yarn engaging surfaces 11a, 40a, Fig. 9, and a lateral spacing S between these surfaces that is less than the normal diameter of the yarn to be passed therebetween. The block 10 has a lower snagging blade 41 which, in conjunction with the block 11, forms a tapered snagging slit that traps the yarn as it is deflected towards the path S. The block 11, Fig. 1, is mounted on a pivoted shaft 18 such that it can be rocked away from the block 10 for cleaning purposes, and a spring 21 acts on the shaft 18 to bias the rear end of the block 11 against the block 10.
