Abstract

903,072. Building blocks. HEWITT Ltd., F. & D. M., and HEWITT, F. Aug. 22, 1958 [Aug. 30, 1957; Nov. 21, 1957], Nos. 27464/57 and 36350/57. Class 87 (1). [Also in Group V] Concrete blocks are cast in a mould (see Group V) so as to leave a hollow core of expanded plastic material in the block. Alternatively, the core may be a container filled with heatinsulating material, in which case the container alone may be removed before casting is completed. The end walls of the block are given complementary projections and recesses to facilitate the joining of blocks laid end-to-end. Reinforcing rods may be cast in and their ends bent to hook over the ends of rods in other blocks. When blocks are fitted between posts 15, Fig. 3, the posts are also recessed, at 8, and concrete wedges 14 are inserted in the resulting cavities and grouted in. As shown, a block 12 is also recessed at 13 to receive the end of a block 11.
