902,697. Surgical douches. BOWEN, M. E. May 9, 1960, No. 16353/60. Class 81 (2). [Also in Group XXVIII] A douche comprises a tiltable threaded nozzle 8 having one end inserted in a pressurized container 1 and having ports 10 and a radially projecting valve head 9 retained on a deformable gasket 7 by a spring 12 and the other end inserted in a tubular transparent or translucent barrel 17 which is longitudinally adjustable by means of an internally threaded closure wall 18 in the end of the barrel adjacent the container. The outer end of the nozzle has a diametral hole 26 covered by a check valve 25 and is inserted into a closure cap 22 which has an annular sealing ring 24 and a flange 25 to limit outward movement of the annular piston 28 which sealingly engages the walls of the barrel and nozzle and is mounted on a spring 30 which seats on the barrel closure wall 18. In operation, the barrel, initially in the unscrewed and sealed position as in Fig. 2, is tilted so as to charge the barrel with liquid; the barrel is then screwed towards the container, thereby retaining valve head 10 on its seating and exposing an annular discharge space around the wall of the cap 22 through which the liquid is discharged by the piston 28. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the piston 28A is fixed and the liquid is discharged upon adjustment of the barrel by the residual pressure remaining therein after it has been charged.
