Abstract
A magnesium base alloy contains 0.2 to 0.7% by weight of zirconium and at least one of the following zirconium precipitating elements: .Al over 0.1%.up to 10% .Sn over 0.1%.up to 10% .Si over 0.1%.up to 5% .Ni over 0.1%.up to 2% .Co over 0.1%.up to 2% .Sb over 0.1%.up to 2% .Fe over 0.01%.up to 0.1% .Be over 0.001%.up to 0.05% .Mn over 0.5%.up to 2% and optionally .Zn.up to 6% .Th.up to 4% .Cd.up to 6% .Ag.up to 3% .Rare earths.up to 8% the suspended zirconium being at least 0.2% and the dissolved zirconium is less than 0.05%. The alloy is produced by the process disclosed in Specification 901,325. Specifications 511,137, 511,291, 603,150, 608,942, 759,411, 806,103 and 806,104 also are referred to.
