In a hydro-electric servo-system a torque motor controls the valve distributer of an hydraulic device and voltages are fed back in dependence on the output movement of the hydraulic device and the speed and angular displacement of the torque motor. The invention may be applied to an aircraft automatic pilot in which the control signal is supplied by a gyroscope pick-off. In Fig. 3, a variable inductive pick-off 20E supplies an alternating voltage signal to an amplifier 11, the output of which energizes a torque motor 5 operating the control valve 12 of an hydraulic jack 14. A rate signal developed by a generator 38, operated with pick-off 20E, is also applied to amplifier 11. A variable inductive device 20S, operated by the jack, applies a positional followup signal to the input of amplifier 11. Feedback signals representative of the speed and acceleration of the jack are respectively developed by a variable inductive device 20A and a generator 9 coupled to the control valve. The variable inductive devices may share a common housing with associated rate generators. Duplication of windings for reliability is referred to.
