Abstract

904,579. Electrically-released switches; locking switches. BENDIX CORPORATION. Aug. 8, 1960 [Aug. 31, 1959], No. 27435/60. Class 38 (5). A rotary switch has a shaft displaceable to a plurality of angularly adjusted positions in each of which main contacts are operated, auxiliary contacts operated by the shaft in said positions controlling an electrically-actuated brake for retarding the shaft rotation, the brake being released at other angular positions of the shaft. As shown, the shaft 19 carries rotors 53, 55 of switches 45, 47, and an armature 35 connected to the shaft by a pin and slot 37, 39. The armature co-operates with a fixed coil 29 which is energized in each adjusted position by closure of a switch 90 by a cam 94 on shaft 19. The shaft is biased to a neutral position, determined by a fixed pin 128, by a spring 122 which acts through levers 118, 120 on a pin 130 on an arm 132 carried by the shaft, so that in the event of failure of the supply to coil 29 the shaft is returned to the neutral position.
