[Also in Group XXIII] A chuck for gripping a workpiece while it is being finished by an abrasive band (Group XXIII) has spring jaws 24 which are mounted at the end of a hollow motor-driven spindle 19 and controlled by a central plunger 31. When withdrawn by a spring 32, the plunger retracts the jaws into gripping position by reason of their engagement with an 0-ring 28 on the tapered inner face 27a of an enclosing housing .27, and, when the plunger is advanced by cam action, it permits springs 26 to release the jaws and a ram 30 on the end of the plunger discharges the finished workpiece. The workpieces, which are fed automatically one by one to a position in alignment with the chuck, are urged into the chuck by a cam-controlled paddle.
