Abstract
898,973. Making sockets; jointing; bending; shearing. BONHOMME, F. R. Sept. 20, 1960 [Sept. 22, 1959], No. 32278/60. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4)] A machine for making sockets of the type including a multiplicity of wires stretched inside a cylinder along the generatrices of a hyperboloid of revolution and fixed by their ends bent over the ends of the cylinder and held by rings forced thereover, includes an obliquely grooved mandrel for positioning the wires, means for cutting wires from a supply and means for bending over the ends of the wires. Wire A from a spool 29 is fed by rollers 32, 33, intermittently rotated by rack and pinion means 34, 35, through one of a number of oblique grooves 13 on an extension 11 of a mandrel 10, to abut a stop lever 25. A casing 16 is then moved to the left to cause a cam 27 thereon to swing the lever 25 and partially bend the free end of the wire. Then a push piece 14 in said casing 16 further bends the end of the wire over. A weak spring 19 between the push piece 14 and the casing 16 then compresses, and on continued movement of the easing 16 the mandrel 10 is moved back in a fixed easing 15 compressing a strong spring 18. The part 1a of the other end of the wire A is thus bent at right angles between a ring 3 positioned on a part 37 of the mandrel 10 and the end face 23 of the casing 15. The end faces 24, 23 of the casings 16, 15 then come into contact with the wire to sever it. The same operations may be repeated with every wire after relative rotation of the mandrel 10 or all the wires may be fed and cut together. The ring 3 is then driven over a sleeve 2 positioned on the mandrel extension 11 and then a ring 4 in a similar manner. The ring 4 carries, Fig. 1, a hollow extension 5 to accommodate a conductor 6. A plug-in member 7 on a conductor 9 is adapted to fit into the socket. Specification 863,764 is referred to.
