A bed-pan or urine bottle disposed of after a single use and constructed of a stiff fibrous materialis capable of rapid reduction to a state in which it can be consigned to a normal domestic drainage system without risk of choking it. The said bed-convenience may be moulded in one piece and may be rendered moisture-resistant, e.g. by wax-coating internally. The bed-pan may be moulded from papier-mache or like pulp material and have a dishshaped body portion 20 with an outwardly-directed peripheral lip 22 on which rests an annular insert 25 of the same or similar material to provide a seat. Preferably, the lip 22 has an internal rebate 24 to accommodate the insert 25 substantially flush with its upper surface, and the bed-pan may be used in combination with a complementary non-expendable rigid carrier 26. The carrier 26 is of dish shape with an outwardly-directed lip 27, snugly engaged by that of the pan and reinforced: by integral webs 29 at its underside. The urine bottle may be formed from a flattened tube of stiff paper or like pulp material having bellows folds 33 along opposite sides- and a longitudinal seam 34, one end of the tube being partially closed to leave a restricted mouth 37 and the other end being folded to provide in known - manner a rectangular bottom for the bag overlaid by a tab 35. The mouth 37 may be constrained to a rectangular or diamond shape by bellows folds 33 in conjunction with an inserted stiffening member 38. A loose lining of thermoplastic film may be applied to the tube prior to forming it into a bag and then heat-sealed thereto. According to the 1 Provisional Specification the body portion 20 is preferably somewhat wedge-shaped in side elevation, the body wall is moulded with corrugations and there may be complementary corrugations in an annular top member 25 which is flat or concave. The member 25 may be an outwardly-directed flange integral with the body 20 and there may be moulded gussets below the junction. The urine bottle may be made in one piece or in two sections united edge-to-edge longitudinally, one or each section having a handle. The bed convenience may be coated internally with wax, varnish or a synthetic thermoplastic and this may be utilized with or without heat and/or pressure to unite the two halves of an urine bottle.
