Class 64(3) Sheets with oblique corrugations are stacked with the corrugations of adjacent sheets at an angle to one another and with flat portions at the ends of the corrugations interposed with strips, Fig. 1, having triangular protrusions 2 forming spacing sidewalls for the sheets, the portions of the strip between the protrusions being removed subsequently, Fig. 4, to form series of inlets and outlets for heat exchange fluids. There is a staggered arrangement of inlets and outlets as in Specification 823,951. Headers 9 on one side of the heat exchanger each coincide with a row of inlets to one set of spaces between sheets and fluid flows across these spaces to a set of headers 9 at the other side of the apparatus, these latter headers and the rows of outlets with which they coincide being set opposite the gaps between the inlets. The second fluid flows through spaces alternating with those for the first fluid, the inlets and outlets 10 to these being arranged between the headers 9 and these spaces being closed to the headers 9 (as indicated at the right of Fig. 4) because the protrusions 2 are staggered in alternate spaces between the sheets. The position of the protrusions 2 may be altered so that one fluid enters by a header 9 and leaves by an opening 10 or vice versa. Tubes or bolts pass through holes 4 in the protrusions 2 and corresponding holes in the flat edges of the corrugated sheets. The headers 9 are formed from tubes with a length cut away between their ends and welded or brazed to the heat exchanger.
