895,764. Cotter pins. CINCINNATI MINE MACHINERY CO. May 19, 1960, No. 17771/60. Class 89(2). [Also in Group XXI] Removable means for retaining a shank 8 in a socket 5 comprises a metal pin 1, encased over the whole or over both end portions with resilient material 3. The means is entered into a bore 6, so entering and extending across a side portion of the socket 5 that the centre portion 1a of the pin will extend into the socket 5 to engage in or against a suitably positioned notch 10 or projection on the shank, which as it is entered into the socket pushes the pin clear of the socket until the notch or projection is level with the pin. When the pin is totally encased in the resilient material the central portion of the pin is bared by the base of the shank shearing away the resilient material at this portion as it passes the retaining means. Many configurations of shank are described.
