Abstract
883,539. Valves. TALLENT (AYCLIFFE) Ltd. April 1, 1960 [Sept. 4, 1959], No. 30337/59. Class 135. A liquid fuel burner control valve comprises a body 1 having an outlet port 4 and an inlet port 5 communicating respectively with a bore 2 and a coaxial smaller bore 3 in the body 10, the juncture of these bores defining a seat, a valve spindle 10 movable axially in the body on rotational movement thereof, e.g. by a screw thread 7 and defining with the first bore an annular passage 2 for the fuel, the spindle having a tapered shoulder 11 of which the narrower end has a cross-sectional diameter corresponding to that of the seat, this shoulder being followed by a slightly tapered end portion 12 normally extending into the counterbore, and the end portion having an axial passage 13 communicating with a transverse passage 14 therein, whereby turning of the spindle, e.g. by a manual knob 9, is effective to cause engagement of the tapered shoulder with the seat to cut-off the fuel or to uncover the transverse passage 14 to permit varying amounts of fuel to pass to the outlet port. The full range of the valve may be obtained by a rotation of the spindle not exceeding 360 degrees and the knob 9 may carry a numbered disc for reference by the user in obtaining, e.g. a desired heat output of the burner.
