Abstract

881,445. Handrails. ALUMINIUM AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT MENZIKEN. Dec. 2, 1959 [April 10, 1959], No. 41038/59. Class 45. [Also in Group XI] An illuminated handrail comprises an elongated hollow casing 4 in which a light source 17 e.g. a fluorescent lamp, can be mounted and a light permeable screen 18, a flexible reflector 13 being mounted inside the casing and urged by abutments 14, 15 against a concave backing surface 10. The supports 25 for the ends of the light source are secured to dovetailed retaining plates 27 fitting in to a slot 28 in the top wall of the casing. Intermediate supports are provided by brackets 16 having one arm 16a passing through a hole in the reflector 13 and hooked on to one edge of the surface 10 and one arm 16b bearing against the front of the reflector. The screen 18 is supported in a groove 19 in the lower edge of the casing and a second groove at the upper end of the casing formed by a stepped recess 21 and a retaining rail 20 having a dovetailed extension 20a fitting in a corresponding groove in the casing, a grub screw 23 being provided to prevent the screen being moved upwards in the recess.
