Abstract

887,823. Mechanical garages. KIRKLAND, G. W., and GRIGGS, F. E. Oct. 20, 1959 [Jan. 26, 1959], No. 2760/59. Class 78 (4). Each floor of a multi-storey mechanical garage has parking bays 26, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42 provided with car-supporting tines 24 which co-operate with vertically-movable tines 7 on a carriage 1a. In operation the carriage lifts cars from tines 24 in an inlet bay 22 at ground level and is driven, with the car, on to a transporter 28 on a lift 45. When the lift is aligned with the chosen floor the transporter is driven along rails 31 to the chosen bay, and the carriage is driven off the transporter into the bay where tines 7 are lowered and the car is deposited on tines 24. A reverse cycle is repeated to transfer parked cars to the exit bay 43. The carriage comprises a frame 5 which supports laterally extending tubular tines 7 and is raised by links 8 and hydraulic rams 11 which are fed from a motordriven pump unit 13, 14, 15 which also provides power for the propulsion wheels 3. Rollers 17 are provided to facilitate movement of the carriage into and out of the transporter and bays. In various modifications (not shown) the trolley is driven pneumatically, electrically, or by rack and pinion devices, and the bays may be located on a single floor.
