Abstract

887,006. Automatic lathes. HAHN, E., [trading as INDEX-WERKE KOMM.-GES. HAHN & TESSKY]. Jan. 21, 1959 [March 28, 1958], No. 2289/59. Class 83 (3). Stock-feed mechanism for automatic lathes comprises an axiallyguided thrust-rod for periodically moving forward a stock-bar when the lathe collet is opened, the rod being coupled to an endless chain which is moved by a pinion engaging a rack driven by a feed-slide on the lathe. The stock-rod 38, Fig. 1, is fed up to the stock-stop 17 at the required time by a thrust-rod 36, in a guide-tube 33, moved by a chain 40 passing over sprockets 41, 42. The sprocket 42 is rotated automatically by a rack 24 secured to a slide 20 on the lathe which is reciprocated at intervals from the cam-shaft 22. The rack engages a pinion 55, Fig. 2, which may be clutched to the sprocket wheel 42 by a control knob 61. When the clutch is disengaged the thrust-rod may be moved by a hand lever 58. The guide-tube may be pivoted about pillar 31 to load it with a fresh bar from the front end, but, in a modification, the stock-bar is loaded from the rear.
