872,082. Making bottle capsules. JONES, L. H. A. Sept. 17, 1957 [Sept. 17, 1956], No. 29296/57. Class 125(3). A machine for the manufacture of metal foil bottle capsules having a smooth skirt 95 and in which a metal foil blank is wrapped on a mandrel to form the skirt to which an end cap 99 is fixed, has an octagonal turret 1 provided with a mandrel 2 on each face and having at right angles to each mandrel passages 8, 9 one for applying suction to the blank and the other for suction to the head cap and for the passage of compressed air for ejection of the finished cap. The sheet 28 of malleable or other metal coated with a varnish which adheres with application of heat is advanced by rollers 27 to a guillotine A or a cutting wheel combined with a transfer member to lead one of the sides of the blank, which has been cut by the guillotine, to mandrel 2 which at B is located opposite a wrapping tool, then after rotation of a further eighth of a turn the turret brings the wrapped mandrel opposite a tool C which causes the sides of the blank to adhere one to the other. The partially formed blank is then brought opposite tool D which flattens the head of the cap, to member E which positions the end cap and to heated member F which fixes by adhesion this end cap, thence to member G for the printing impression of this end cap and to member H where the finished cap is ejected by compressed air.
