862,394. Photo-electric control. SICK, E. June 14, 1957 [June 19, 1956], No. 18798/57. Class 40(3) In apparatus in which light reflected from or transmitted by a web &c. 4 carrying control marks 5 falls on a photo-cell 7 to control an operation or give an indication, the amount of light falling on the web &c. is adjustable by a variable aperture 17 to control the amount of light falling on the cell 7 due to different webs and control marks. The light is directed on to the cell 7 by a concave mirror 6 and a lenticular screen 19. For determining the aperture necessary, two prisms 18, 18<SP>1</SP> are employed to form two images 3<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>11</SP>, one of which is on a mark 5 to give an average light intensity.
