Coupling parts 10, 11, one of which has an annular sealing element 22 and the other a corresponding seating 14a, are adapted at one side of the element for interengagement in a pivotal fashion and have at the other side of the element a pressure-applying device in the form of a quick-acting, toggle-like lever 20 which has a handle end and a pressure-applying end and which is pivotably mounted to turn about an axis 19 disposed intermediate the ends thereof and substantially at right angles to the axis of the sealing element when in engagement with the seating. The pressure-applying end of the lever is adapted to draw the parts towards each other about the pivotal engagement to produce a water-tight seal between the sealing element and seating. As shown in Fig. 1, the part 11 includes a peripheral flange 16a having an inwardly directed extension 16c to provide a locating socket for the reception of the tapered end 12a of the part 10. The latter carries a stud 18 on which is pivoted the lever 20 and which, when the two parts are assembled as shown, passes into a slot 16b in the part 11, the lever being turned so that the free end thereof contacts the adjacent face of the part 11 to exert a squeezing action on the sealing element. The parts 10, 11 have bosses 13 and tubes 14 fitted in the bores of the bosses are held against axial displacement relatively to the bosses by screws 15. In a modification, the part 11 has side flanges 16a terminating in hook-like lugs 16d for engagement by the ends 12c of a rod 12b secured to the part 10. Either of the parts 10, 11 may be adapted for use as a blanking off member.
