Abstract
860,855. Contacts for electric heating. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE, A. G. Oct. 2, 1958 [Oct. 2, 1957], No. 31515/58. Class 39 (3). Contact holders 2 used in supplying heating current to a workpiece 6 each comprise four contacts 3 which are pressed against the workpiece by springs 11 or by means of pistons; concentric flexible tubes convey pressure and cooling media to the contacts. The holders pivot about a fulcrum 10, and a lever member 9 actuated by a piston (not shown) causes the contacts to press on the workpiece. A further contact 1 is urged against the end of the workpiece by a spring 7. Current is supplied to the contact 1 via terminals 15 and by flexible copper connections 14, 17. By using resistance material for connections 20, a reduced voltage at terminals 19 of the contacts 3 results. Alternatively, the connections may be inductive members or the terminals 19 may be supplied from a source of lower voltage than that to which terminals 15 are connected. At least one of these voltages may be regulated. A device for moving workpieces from a charging table 23 into position for holding by the contacts comprises an arm 21 pivotable by an eccentric 22. The assembly is longitudinally slidable on a base.
