Abstract

860,821. Paper. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. March 24, 1959 [March 25, 1958], No. 9561/58. Class 96. Paper suitable for use in the manufacture of impregnated dielectric material is made from well-beaten wood-pulp stock through which is dispersed 2-20%, preferably 5-10% of glass fibre having a diameter of 1 micron or less and an average length of about 0.1 mm. Suitable pulp has a Schopper-Riegler value of about 90 degrees. A single ply paper may be made on a normal machine and a two-ply paper on a twin wire machine or on a singlewire machine by winding a web of wet paper and later combining it with a web of paper passing through the machine at the first press. The paper may be impregnated with a naphthenic base oil, with a high proportion of aromatics, derived from low sulphur, low wax crude oil.
