Abstract
866,757. Purifying gases. WHESSOE Ltd. Jan. 19, 1960 [Nov. 10, 1958], No. 35993/58 Class 55 (2). A stream of fuel gas is passed through at least one vessel containing ferric oxide, and a second stream of gas containing a constituent for addition to the fuel gas together with oxygen is passed through at least one vessel containing previously sulphided ferric oxide and the two streams of gas are subsequently admixed. As shown, initially fuel gas may be passed through vessels 1 to 5 by opening valves 11, 31, 32, 33, 34, 25 only. The gas may then be passed through vessels 5, 1, 2, 34 by opening valves 15, 35, 31, 32, 33, 24 only and the cyclic order of vessels may thus be altered periodically. Then fuel gas may be passed through inlet 10 and via valves 11, 31, 32, 33 and 24 through vessels 1, 2, 3 and 4 to outlet 20 while nitrogen containing a little oxygen is passed through vessel 5 via valves 45 and 25 to outlet 20 where the two streams of gas are admixed. The fuel gas may then be diverted to vessels 5, 1, 23 via valves 15, 35, 31, 32, 23 to outlet 20 while the nitrogen/oxygen stream passes through vessel 4, valves 44 and 24 to link up with the fuel gas in outlet 20. If desired the second gas stream may be an encircling gas of high calorific value containing oxygen.
