864,423. Valves. SPERRYN & CO. Ltd. June 25, 1958 [July 25, 1957 ; Oct. 1, 1957], Nos. 23559/57 and 30674/57. Class 135. A gas burner safety control for a cooker or oven comprises a pilot jet 27 lit automatically by igniter 26 when gas passes a solenoid valve 30 opened by a preset timer, a thermal element 22 heated by the jet, and a spring-closed main burner gas valve 14 opened by the thermal element and closing when the pilot goes out. Members 22, 26 and 27 are housed in a flash tube 23. When coil 33 is de-energized similarly wound permanently-energized coil 34 allows the valve 30 to open under gas pressure. Energization of coil 33 closes the valve 30. The supply of gas to the solenoid valve may be controlled by a cock in series with a valve controlled by an oven thermostat which will vary the pilot flame, element 22 and valve 14.
