Abstract
853,492. Hydraulic presses ; intensifiers. GLAS, M. March 11, 1957, No. 7915/57. Class 69 (2). The press piston of an hydraulic press is brought into contact with the work by liquid supplied directly to the press cylinder, and then the working pressure is obtained by an intensifier arrangement. As shown in Fig. 1, a working piston 5 is provided in a cylinder 3 separated by a partition 2 from an intensifier cylinder 4 having a differential piston 6 with a portion 10 extending through a bore in the partition. Piston 5 is brought into contact with the work by liquid supplied through passages 52, 53, 54, through a bore 11 in the intensifier piston and through a valve 13 to the underside of the piston 5. As the pressure increases, piston 6 is raised and valve 13 (which is opened by contact with a rod 14 in the lower end position of piston 6) closes, and the pressure below piston 5 is thus brought to its desired value. A return stroke is effected by supplying liquid through passages 49, 50, 51 to the space above the piston 5, liquid then exhausting from the intensifier cylinder until, in the end position of the piston 6, valve 13 is opened, whereupon liquid exhausts from the cylinder 3. In the modification of Fig. 8, the press piston 105 is retracted. into its cylinder for the working stroke. The intensifier piston 106 has a part 110 entering a bore 124<1> in the press piston, and passages 125, 127 afford communication between this bore and the upper side of the press cylinder. The operation is the same as before. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 15a, 15b, the press piston 205<1> is mounted in an annular piston 205 for clamping the work. The intensifier piston 506 has a portion 510 entering into the cylinder in which the annular piston slides, portion 510 having a bore 511 closed by a valve 513, except in the lower end position of the piston 510. This end position of the intensifier piston is determined by an adjustable stop 544. For a working stroke liquid is supplied through a port 554 to a groove 536 in the intensifier piston, and thence through passages 537 to the bore 511. A restricted passage 538 intercommunicates the groove 536 and a chamber 504a at the underside of the intensifier piston. Relief valves 541 are provided between chamber 504a and the bore 510. In a modification, the annular piston is the press piston and piston 2051 operates the clamping means ; in a further modification, an annular clamping piston works in an annular chamber provided around the rod of the press piston. In other modifications, clamping and press pistons are provided and the intensifier is the same as that shown in Fig. 1
