Abstract

852,268. Preventing incrustation. HUGHES & CO. Ltd., F. A. Dec. 17, 1958 [March 13, 1958], No. 8058/58. Class 123(1) The fouling of a ship's hull 5 by marine growths is prevented by distributing over its underwater surface a gaseous or liquid growth deterrent, for example the liquid deterrent described in Specification 852,262. The deterrent is distributed by a system of perforated pipes 8, 10, the pipes extending lengthwise of the hull and being housed in the angles formed between the edges of the overlapping keel plate 7 and those of the adjacent plates 7a and the surface of the overlapped plates 9 so that damage to the pipes will be avoided should the bottom of the ship touch the sea-bed or when the ship is in dry dock.
