Abstract
850,197. Making horizontal structures. BARUT, V. J. Feb. 24, 1959 [Feb. 25, 1958], No. 6414/59.. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group VIII] A cellular structure is made by folding a band or web 20 into box pleats, applying adhesive 23 to one face of the folded band or web, cutting the band or web into sheets, assembling a plurality of such folded sheets 20, 201, 20<11>, 20<111> (Fig. 4) in a stack so that the upper portions 12 of the folds in each sheet adhere to the lower portions 10 of the folds in an adjacent sheet, and expanding the stacked sheets after the adhesive has set. The portions 11 are preferably equal in length to onehalf of the portions 10 or 12. The band or sheet material may be cardboard, paper, either impregnated or not, metal, or synthetic resin. The adhesive may be glue. If the material is metal, the joint may be made by welding or brazing. As shown in Fig. 5, a web 24 from roll 25 is pleated by the blades 28 and 29, and receives a coating of adhesive from roller 31. It is cut into suitable lengths which are stacked and glued together at 32. The assembly is then cut into sections along the lines 33, and the sections expanded. The product may be used as a filling in panels or partitions covered with plywood, metal, plaster, plaster-board or asbestos-cement.
