[Also in Group XIX] A device for providing either a visual indication or a printed record of which one of a group of electrical conductors is electrically distinguished from the others (for example the marked output of a multi-cathode counting tube), comprises a drum 55X, Fig. 1, carrying on its cylindrical surface a plurality of indicia each corresponding to a particular conductor of the group of electrical conductors, an arrangement comprising a plurality of fixedly mounted photo-transistors P0, P1, &c. which co-operate with a rotating cylinder 57 having a hole 61 in it, to provide an electrical indication of which of the indicia on the drum is positioned at a viewing or printing position, and gating means controlled by the group of electrical conductors and the plurality of photo-transistors to detect when the indicia at the viewing or printing position corresponds to the electrically distinguished electrical conductor and to then either momentarily illuminate the indicia at the viewing or printing position by means of a xenon flash tube or to momentarily press a record sheet against the indicia at the viewing or printing position by means of a rubber hammer whereby either a visual indication, by the stroboscopic principle, of the electrically distinguished conductor is obtained, or a printed record is obtained. An actual gating circuit (Fig. 3, not shown) using diode gates controlled by the photo-transistors and the outputs of a multi-cathode counting tube is described.
