Abstract

855,695. Electroplates of chromium and nickel. UDYLITE RESEARCH CORPORATION. Nov. 26, 1958 [Jan. 10, 1958], No. 38138/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 41. A corrosion resistant plating is formed on a base metal by plating with a chromium coating of thickness 0À75 to 5 microns, then a nickel coating of 5 to 50 mics. and finally a thin chromiun plating of 0À12 to 2À5 mics. The treble coating may be applied to iron and steel including stainless steel, aluminium, magnesium, copper, brass, nickel or zinc when preferably a flash coating of copper is first applied. Steel sheet is preferably pre-plated with zinc or cadmium. After the first chromium plate the article is treated with a reducing agent, e.g. sodium sulphate, thiosulphate solution, sugar solution, or ferrous salts. Sequesting agents preventing the depositions of chromium hydroxide may be added, e.g. sodim gluconate or nitrilotriacetate. The nickel plating bath may include brightness e.g. bromal chlorhydrate, 8-methoxy coumarin 0- benzoyl sulphimide. Specification 751,299 is referred to.
